Charges against actor Darshan

BANGALORE: The bail application of actor Darshan, who is under judicial custody for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill his wife Vijayalakshmi, will be heard by the first class additional chief magistrate court on Monday.

He has been booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He has also been booked under section 27 of the arms act.

Legal experts have different takes on the way the case could go. “The fact that his wife had given an affidavit to the magistrate could go in his favour. However, the seriousness of the crime he is allegedly involved may result in a verdict not favourable to him,” said a senior criminal lawyer of the city.

“It is not possible for her to withdraw the case. What she can do is give a further statement. It is the discretion of the court to decide on the bail,” he said.

If the magistrate disagrees to consider Vijayalakshmi’s statement, it could spell trouble for Darshan. “The charges against him include attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and use of arms. These are not negligible offences,” said legal experts.

NOT EASY TO WITHDRAW A COMPLAINT
According to police officials, withdrawing a police complaint involves a long procedure. “In case a complaint has to be withdrawn, permission of the court is required following which, the complainant and witness should come to the police station and ask for the same. However, in this case, police have the right to decide whether they should go on with the case or not. If necessary we can conduct investigation and file a chargesheet,” said T Suneel Kumar, additional commissioner of police (law and order).

Meanwhile, Vijayanagar police have said no one had approached them seeking withdrawal of the case.

Katrina: I Slapped Imran 16 Times

Mumbai, Sep 12: With her recent success of ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’, Katrina Kaif in an exclusive interview speaks of her experience shooting the movie.

In the movie, there is a very critical scene where in Imran Khan confronts Katrina, following which she slaps him. Commenting on it, Kat breaks into giggles and says that Imran was slapped over 16 times while shooting for that particular scene! She said, “Well I don’t think he anticipated that we were going to shoot that particular bit 16 times so he got lot of slaps from me and they were pretty hard. By the end of it he was like, ‘I can’t take any more slaps’. But finally we got it right.”

Along with Imran and Katrina, Pakistani musician and singer Ali Zafar was also a part of the cast, playing the role of Imran’s brother. On being questioned about her experience with Ali, Kat said, “He is a real good performerI think he is great at comedy and he just kind of brought lot of good vibes during the shoot. And since he is also a musician he would entertain us with his songs when we were shooting outdoors. He would play guitar and it was like a bunch of group of friends hanging together on the sets.”

The movie was shot in different locations in Delhi and Punjab. Speaking about adjusting problems at dingy places, Katrina seemed to have no problem with that. She said, “It was called Iqbal Inn and I remember Imran being terrified when we walked in. But it was a young unit and we had a great time. We forgot all the problems and decided to have fun together. We were there for about 25 days. We would eat only dal, roti and tandoori chicken but the environment was great. Imran couldn’t adjust well and we would all pull his leg about it.”

Also, she said that the most fun part of the shooting was cricket. The cast often played cricket on the sets during the shoot. She said, “That is something which I really enjoyed and actually kept me fit and gave us a form of exercise in between the shots.”
